Background Check Requirements

• The State of California requires that all volunteers who work with Youth for 32 hours or more per year have digital fingerprints taken and a background check completed (also referred to as Live Scan)

  • This includes: Bishopric Members; Primary and Nursery Workers; Young Women and Young Men's leaders, advisors, instructors, and camp directors; Seminary Teachers and secretaries; Ministers w/ youth companions; any other person working with minors for 32 hours per year or more

• Below are instructions and information about the process as well as the form that you will need to fill out and present to have the background check done. The following are local businesses that provide the Live Scan service:

Protecting Children and Youth - Training 

All leaders and teachers of children or youth are to complete this training within one month of being called.

Church activities and classes are opportunities for children and youth to feel the love of the Savior and the influence of the Holy Ghost. While participating, children and youth need to feel safe and protected. Leaders and teachers should follow the Savior’s example of love and concern for children.

This training covers how to recognize and prevent physical, sexual, verbal, and other types of abuse. The resources below can also help you recognize and prevent abuse. The training provides scenarios to help you better understand and apply key principles and policies.
